Food Safety Program

EH&S permits and inspects SDSU-owned permanent food establishments, including SDSU Imperial Valley and Snapdragon Stadium temporary food facilities. Our routine inspections ensure food establishments comply with the California Retail Food Code (CalCode) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Code.

Complaints and Foodborne Illness Investigations

If you believe you may have become ill after visiting a food facility on campus or at any SDSU facilities (e.g., Snapdragon Stadium, SDSU Imperial Valley), please report it to EH&S via the EH&S Foodborne Illness Reporting Form

Plan Review for New or Existing Permanent Food Facilities on Campus

EH&S reviews plans and specifications of new or existing food facilities prior to new construction, remodeling, equipment replacement, new equipment, or significant menu changes, etc. Construction, remodeling, or equipment replacements or additions cannot commence until EH&S approval has been received. 

Please review the San Diego Review Requirement Checklist (external site), which is used by SDSU EH&S, and contact EH&S before submitting plans.

Potable Water

EH&S oversees the disinfection of newly installed or repaired drinking water mains, distribution systems, or lines to ensure harmful bacteria are not introduced into the water systems. The SDSU Water Main and Building Water Disinfection and Testing Procedures outlines the American Water Works Association Standard for Disinfecting Water Mains (ANSI/AWAA C651a-19 Standard) and California Plumbing Code requirements.
